Known for their popular titles, including Josie & The Pussycats, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the recent Afterlife with Archie, Archie Comics is relaunching their staple series. Get to know red-headed Archie Andrews and his friends for the first time in writer Mark Waid and artist Fiona Staples' Archie #1

As the official website states, the first installment reenergizes the story of Archie and his friends. Deemed as an origin story,  readers will discover the early beginnings of pop culture's favorite redheaded teen and his friends. With a new creative team, this means a fresh direction in the love triangle between Archie, Betty and Veronica.

We have 5 thoughts on why we cannot wait to grab our hands on Archie #1:

1) Archie's A Lot More Attractive

Perhaps the most jarring aspect of the relaunch was the change of the iconic art style. Reimagined by artist Fiona Staples, they no longer have that vintage cartoon look about them.  The art still keeps the spirit of the characters, but now they look quite real and modern. With his straight hair, a guitar, and even a motorcycle, Archie himself looks a lot cooler. With this new look, it's way more believable that he has girls like Betty and Veronica fighting over him.

Bonus: There's only so much you can do to Archie Andrews, especially after killing him off. After a heart-breaking tale like that, it can't all be gloom and doom. Save that for the awesomeness that is Afterlife with Archie

(J.S.)

2) Betty's Got a New Look Too

Because she's always been athletic, tomboyish, and the quintessential girl next door, the promo art shows Betty with ripped jeans and holding up a pom pom. Being a cheerleader is associated with femininity, while still being athletic, but the ripped jeans suggests an edge. (Y.M.)

Bonus: Staples' artwork captures attitude, which is why Betty is quite striking. It's more about giving her personality than turning Betty into some cliche. (J.S.)

3) Jughead's Still Wearing that Hat

Despite the fact that they've updated the clothes to a more 21st century style, the always hungry Jughead is still wearing a whoopee cap - the thing that looks like a crown on his head. The caps are made from a man's felt fedora hat with a turned-up, zig-zag brim. This hasn't been popular with boys since the 40s, Jughead wouldn't be recognizable without it. (Y.M.)

4) Same Old Veronica

For the cover art  of Betty and Veronica, the new series features self-absorbed Veronica in a skin-baring outfit, and slacking off while Betty does all the work. So at least we know our favorite, spoiled rich girl hasn't changed a bit.

Bonus: There are some things you cannot change, especially when you are dealing with polar opposites. (J.S.)

5) New Origin Story?

Being a teenager means you're not really an adult and you're too old to be a kid. Archie connects with readers because the iconic character has something to say about the time period, about human nature, and as society that struggles but fights to change for the better. What does Archie #1 has to say about us? (J.S.)

Archie #1 hits stores on July 8th, 2015.
