As if saving the future of humanity wasn't enough in the movies, George Clooney recently fought to ensure that a popular war zone in Africa wasn't corrupted. On Monday, the Tomorrowland actor created an initiative to find out who is funding and profiting from these said conflicts and joined up with human rights activist, John Prendergast. The Guardian reports that the organization, The Sentry, "aims to investigate the flow of money in and out of conflict zones and give policymakers the tools to take effective action." The project uses a website that uses data collection, "field research and analysis technology to expose how conflict is financed and profits laundered."

This is evidently happening just in time for President Barack Obama's visit to the country. "The Obama administration has worked hard in recent years to promote a vision of entrepreneurial potential and economic recovery among Africa's diverse nations, a plan that culminated in the 2014 U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit in Washington. During his upcoming trip to Ethiopia, Obama plans to attend a global entrepreneurship summit, again highlighting the positive changes afoot on the continent," reported The Huffington Post. Evidently, this is a cause that Clooney is passionate about and this isn't the first time that Clooney has been so passionate in rebelling against a cause that he believes is unfair.

Not long ago, in May 2012, Clooney was arrested for protesting the actions of President Omar Al-Bashir at the Sudanese Embassy. He also went around in Washington, hoping that his reputation as a Hollywood star would have some impact on the situation with Sudan. He apparently said that Al-Bashir was "an alleged war-criminal, [and] to stop the violence and allow humanitarian aid into the country," according to ABC News.

You can't blame Clooney for trying, and it's quite admirable to see an A-List movie star take charge and become motivated by something other than an Ocean's Eleven film and trivial elements of his status. Clooney continues to fight for what he believes in as well as filming an upcoming movie alongside Julia Roberts called Money Monster, as well as recently completing a Coen brother's movie, Hail, Caesar!, to be released in theaters in February 2016.
