Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter isn't holding anything back when it coms to casting his new series The Bastard Executioner. He already has a great leading cast in Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Katey Sagal (SOA's Gemma Teller) and more, but a recurring, supporting role was just filled that has really garnered plenty of attention. Six-time Grammy nominee Ed Sheeran is making the leap from music to acting in the upcoming series, taking a break from his busy schedule of touring and performing to portray Sir Cormac in the dark period piece. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sheeran's character, Sir Cormac is "an ambitious and deadly protégé of a high-ranking church elder." This is a recurring role but not the first time Sheeran has worked with Sutter. The singer recorded a cover version of Foy Vance's "Make It Rain" for the penultimate episode of Sons of Anarchy.

He also starred as himself in NBC's live episode of Undateable (via UPROXX).

As MStars News previously mentioned, Sutter's highly anticipated new series follows a warrior knight named Wilkin Brattle (Lee Jones) in King Edward III's court. He's left his post due to the hardships and terrors he's seen but when violence strikes again, the retired knight is forced to pick up his sword again.

Ed Sheeran is set to air his concert special Ed Sheeran: Live at Wembley Stadium on NBC later on this summer.
