After watching the pilot, FX has green-lit the series order to the follow-up new drama from Sons of Anarchy creator/showrunner Kurt Sutter. Audiences should get ready to watch Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Katey Sagal (the infamous Gemma Teller) and Matthew Rys (The Americans) in the medieval period piece, The Bastard Executioner, this fall.

As we previously mentioned,The Bastard Executioner follows a warrior knight, Wilkin Brattle (Lee Jones) in King Edward III's court. The loyal knight has been broken by the ravages of war and vows to leave the way of the sword. When violence strikes again, the retired knight is forced to pick up his sword again.

We also mentioned, Sagal will play Annora of the Alders, who offers predictions, cures and potions. Moyer is Milus Corbett, a former marshal in the army, who now serves as his own chamberlain, chancellor and justiciar. Rhys has the recurring role of Gruffudd y Blaidd, a smart, fearless and noble blood leader of the Welsh rebels.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX has ordered a 10-episode first season for the period piece, The Bastard Executioner. The Sons of Anarchy creator recently wrapped production on the pilot after shooting on location in Wales. Production will resume once again this summer to shoot the other episodes.

Sutter explains his excitement for his new series, "I love history. I love theology. I love blood. It's been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements. And with this extraordinary cast - Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal and newcomer Lee Jones - this world explodes on screen. I love working with FX and Fox21TVS. They've been my family for 15 years. They not only tolerate me, they embrace my extremely disturbing storytelling sensibilities."
