Finally, it's been announced that Chris Pine will in fact be starring alongside Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman. Rumors surrounding Pine's jump into the DC movies were all over the place, including Green Lantern speculation, but reports confirmed this week that the Star Trek Beyond star will portray Steve Trevor in the upcoming solo film.

According to The Wrap, with the exclusive report, "There had been speculation that Pine was up for a role in WB's upcoming Green Lantern Corps and that the Wonder Woman rumors were just a smokescreen, but that particular popular fanboy theory proved to be unfounded." According to Hypable, "Steve Trevor, is an intelligence officer in the U.S. army during W[orld] W[ar] II whose plane crashed on Paradise Island, which is the homeland of the Amazons, where Wonder Woman comes from. He was then nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana, who ends up falling in love with him and follows him when he returns to Earth."

The character of Steve Trevor is quite important to the series of comic books. In fact, he "has existed in comic book history as long as Wonder Woman herself, both debuting in 1941's All Star Comics #8. Created by William Moulton Marston and H.G. Peter, the character is a regular fixture in most versions of the character, traditionally depicted as a military hero.

Lyle Waggoner portrayed Trevor in the '70s Wonder Woman TV series, according to Comic Book Resource. Pine will be making history and have a lot to live up to, but seeing as what he has already conquered in the fantasy genre, it's safe to say that he won't only please fans, but surpass their expectations. "This would mark entry into another major franchise for Pine, who stars as Captain Kirk in Paramount's Star Trek films, the third of which is expected to start production soon," says Comic Book Resource.

The film is also getting a lot of attention because it will be the first female superhero "solo" film. Due to creative differences expected director Michelle MacLaren was replaced by Patty Jenkins just last month for this project. Gadot will make her first appearance as Wonder Woman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
