It is a sad day in the world of entertainment, as the industry has lost one of their own. Frank Gifford, former New York Giants football star, sportscaster and husband to Today show host Kathie Lee Gifford has passed away. The 84-year-old star died of natural causes in the couple's Connecticut home on Sunday, and the world is in mourning today after the loss. However, the show must go on and Hoda Kotb took part of the fourth-hour of the Today show to pay emotional tribute to her BFF's late husband.

According to PEOPLE, Hoda remembered Frank on the air, while Kathie was noticeably absent from the broadcast to mourn her husband.

In the clip from today's episode, Hoda broke down in tears as she addressed Frank's death.

"This is what any man would dream of leaving behind," Kathie's bestie explained on the air. "To the nation really, to New York especially, he was a legend. Frank will be beloved by family and friends."

Earlier in the broadcast Hoda talked about visiting Kathie following her husband's death and couldn't help but get emotional.

"She is remarkably strong," Kotb explained of her co-stars. "I'm in awe of her even today."

The Kathie Lee and Hoda Twitter account also paid tribute to the late star, posting a picture of Hoda, Kathie Lee and Frank from a past episode of Today.

The caption read, "Today, we lost a member of the 4th Hour family. Rest in peace, Frank Gifford. Our prayers are with @KathieLGifford."

Kathie also posted on her personal Twitter account, writing a personal message to her fans.

"Deeply grateful to all 4 ur outpouring of grace. We r steadfast in our faith & finding comfort in knowing where Frank is. Phillippians 4:13," the star wrote.

Rest in Peace Frank.
