A brand new movie poster for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens from iconic artist Drew Struzan premiered earlier this month at the 2015 D23 Expo. In the special poster, we see newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver in character as Finn, Rey and Kylo Ren respectively, with Harrison Ford's Han Solo also featured. Finn is wielding a lightsaber, which has many asking if he's portraying a Jedi in the new movie, which has a December 18, 2015 release date. Read more on this news below. [SPOILERS to follow]

J.J. Abrams definitely has a lot of plans for that lightsaber, which was Anakin and Luke Skywalker's in the franchise's canon. So does this image mean Boyega is portraying a new Jedi in the film or is it just a simple poster that isn't trying to tease anything?

According to the official Twitter account for Star Wars, "This is just a commemorative poster for the Expo, not the official poster." Check out the poster right here (via IGN):

What do you think of this poster? Do you think Finn is a Jedi? You can check out a comparison of this poster to Struzan's previous posters in the series right here!

Slash Film suggests that Abrams and the rest of the crew most likely want us all to think that he is a Jedi, but maybe he simply uses the iconic weapon in a battle. If so, then he probably doesn't know how to use it well.

What do you think?

Meanwhile, Boyega recently signed on to star in director James Ponsoldt's The Circle, alongside Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. Clearly the actor is well on his way to a long and lucrative career thanks to this Star Wars gig!
