Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy is coming out strong and denouncing term "plus-size" as she launches her new clothing line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7. She said in a recent interview that she thinks the term is both demeaning and, logistically, bad for business.

"Women come in all sizes," McCarthy told Refinery 29. "Seventy percent of women in the United States are a size 14 or above, and that's technically 'plus-size,' so you're taking your biggest category of people and telling them, 'You're not really worthy.'"

She went on to explain that separating clothes above a size 14, or not making clothing above a certain size, is "very bad business" as a company is not serving a major group of customers. McCarthy said that by separating smaller and larger sizes, a company is "over-complicating something that should be easy."

Melissa McCarthy Seven7 designs will come in sizes four through 28. McCarthy told Refinery 29 that she worked with some sellers to keep all the sizes in the same space on the store floor, although she hasn't announced which stores have agreed to do so.

"I said, 'Run the sizes as I make them and let friends go shopping with their friends. Stop segregating women.' And they said, 'Okay,'" McCarthy explained.

McCarthy hates that clothes are separated by size categories in stores, which implies that not all women are worthy of the same designs, she said.

The line is officially launching on September 1 and will be sold in Nordstrom, Macy's, Belk and Bloomingdales.

McCarthy has always had a passion for fashion. She first came to New York City in the 1980s to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. However, she moved over into acting, and comedy, as her stand-up gigs were going well.

McCarthy has long been outspoken on how designers can mistreat women who aren't a size two. Last summer, McCarthy made headlines when she revealed that many major designers refused to make a dress in her size for her to go to the Oscars.
