'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Character Groot Helps Disabled Child Speak

With the Fantastic Four being such a bust, the best way to get the bad taste it left out of your mouth is by watching Guardians of the Galaxy again. Not only is it one of the most iconic comic book movies despite having relative unknowns in it, apparently you can learn from it. Case in point with a child who suffers from slurred speech because of a disease called Dyspraxia. On Facebook, a man by the name of Josh Dunlap explains to Guardians director James Gunn's official page the character Groot changed his child.

The father says, for most of the child's life, he would use the word "bah" to describe things. Now he says "Groot."

"When Guardians came out, Sawyer could only say about three words and would communicate to his mother and I by other means," Dunlap said. "When he saw Groot, something clicked inside him and he connected with him on a level I haven't seen.

"He began to mimic him and he would use the word 'Bah' for a lot, but after he saw the film, he would change the tone in which he said it to convey a different meaning," Dunlap continued. "He would also start saying Groot for many things as well. Since that, he was finally able to go to a speech class and it has helped amazingly."

To the father's surprise, the man behind Guardians, Gunn, responded.

"I love making movies because of stories like this. Thank you," Gunn told Dunlap.

Gunn then went on to say that he is happy for most of the positive feedback he has received for the movie. Apparently his peers, probably the men and women behind such busts as Fantastic Four, aren't doing so well online.

"I have many friends who get a lot of negative messages online - I'm very grateful for the huge, vast majority of positive and kind people who follow me here, on Twitter, and Instagram. I get to hear stories like this, and then read all the amazing comments below. Truly wonderful."
