Pokemon World Championships 2015: Boston Police Arrest Two Gunmen, Save Lives

The World Championships of Pokemon were held in Boston, Mass. this year, resulting in some amazing competition based around the card game that has taken over the world. We saw plenty of winners and some momentous celebrations, but this event could've ended in a much more horrible way if it hadn't been for the Boston Police. According to a number of news reports, two young adult males were on their way to the event with a car packed full of guns. The pair had some terroristic ideas about the World Championships, but we didn't see their plan come to life, thankfully. Read more on this below.

Two men, 18-year-old Kevin Norton and 27-year-old James Stumbo, traveled from Iowa for the event, but were suspicious to police after making threats on social media leading up to the Pokemon World Championships. They were detained but released after a while, but police kept their car because reports claimed it was full of guns (via The Guardian). These reports were correct.

The police obtained a warrant to search the car and found an arsenal of weapons. Here is a photo of the car's content from the department's official Facebook page (via Gamma Squad):

"This incident is a good example of private security reaching out to their local Boston police district and relaying information to detectives and BRIC analysts in order to identify the very real threat," said superintendent of the Boston Police Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Analysis, Paul Fitzgerald, in a statement (via Polygon). "The BPD detectives and collaborating agencies did a great job in the stop and prevention of a potential tragedy."
