'The Flash' Season 2 Spoilers: Will Grant Gustin/Barry Allen Become Jay Garrick's "Protégé?"

With the first season cliffhanger leaving audiences hanging, the CW network has plans underway Season 2 of The Flash. Will Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) end up in a race to the finish line as he becomes the protege of Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears), another scarlet speedster?

In our first season recap, Barry Allen as he awake from his coma, after being struck by lightning. Given super-speed powers, Barry belonged to small group of friends, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), and Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), who know his secret identity. They worked together against super villains, including Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), and teaming up with the Arrow (Stephen Amell). But they never realized their true enemy was lurking within their ranks, the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh).

We mentioned before, Sears (Masters of Sex) actor will play the recurring role of Jay Garrick, the Silver Age Flash. In the DC Comics Universe, in the New 52, Jay is now a semi-retired crime-fighter, with his hair gone totally white. Viewers caught a glimpse of Jay's iconic winged helmet in the first season finale. In his arrival, Jay is a mysterious figure who warns Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs about an impending danger that he alone cannot stop.

In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Gabrielle Stanton reveals, "We didn't want Barry to get lonely so we thought we'd bring in some more speedsters. It's always Barry's journey. The Flash is always about Barry, but these people who come in will show us different ways that The Flash can be."

Stanton adds how Barry will lean towards Garrick , "He's going to be Barry's mentor a little bit and help him really reach his potential"

Season One ofThe Flash arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray September 22, 2015. The Flash returns for Season 2 on Tuesday, October. 6, at 8/7c.
