Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Brett Dalton has had an interesting experience with his character, Grant Ward, on the show, and in a new interview, he discusses what to expect from the Hydra agent in Season 3. [SPOILERS to Follow]

Dalton spoke to Comic Book Movie in an exclusive interview, and the site asked what Dalton expects from Ward, who decided at the end of last season to firmly place himself on the side of evil and take up arms against S.H.I.E.L.D. after Daniel Whitehall and the rest of Hydra's leadership fell.

"I think that he's on the other side of something," he said. "He has had two pretty significant relationships, with Skye, Agent 33, and those have been pretty big for him. Both of them have ended because of the actions of S.H.I.E.L.D. and so I think he has kind of crossed over in a way. That's what I think you see in the last scene of season two where he asks for a list of names and says, 'Okay, I miss having a team around me,' and this is going to be a new chapter. You're not going to see any of the internal conflict you saw in seasons one and two. None of the moral ambiguity or the questioning, 'Am I a good person or a bad person?' He knows exactly who he is and he knows exactly what he wants to do. The way he sees it, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Coulson have been responsible or great losses in his life."

Many fans were worried in Season 2 that Ward would have a change of heart and rejoin his old team, or that Coulson and Skye would forgive him and accept him with open arms back into S.H.I.E.L.D. in some sort of ill-advised redemption arc. But instead, it looks like the show has doubled down on Ward as a bad guy, even a wild card of sorts.

The site also asked Dalton where he would like to see the character go if he had complete control over Ward's direction:

"I would like to see an extremely sensitive moment," he said. "I think you get very little bits of it. Apart from that....the season two finale, it feels like he has kind of crossed over. Something sort of snapped in a way and he's on the warpath. Ward is always either running from something or running to something. He always constantly seems to be really satisfied and always has the next mission.

"In season two, it's, like, 'Hey, I am on a mission. I am going to reunite Skye with her father.' He just is hell bent on the thing," Dalton explained. "Then he does it. Skye doesn't love it so much. Shoots me in the chest. Whatever. Then he meets Agent 33 and he becomes hell bent on moving Agent 33 forward. And in order to do that, he gets Bobbi Morse and, sure they do a little torture thing, but he wants her to admit that she betrayed Agent 33 so Agent 33 can move her life forward. It's all in the name of that.

"He becomes hyper-focused on one thing at a time. I would like to see him finally get to where he is going. It would be really nice if there was just a moment of contentment," the actore concluded.

Where would you like to see Brett Dalton's character of Grant Ward go in Season 3? Do you think he has any sort of shot at redemption, or should he continue down this villainous path? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
