The CW's Arrow returns for Season 4 in just a few weeks, and executive producer Marc Guggenheim has dropped some new spoilers in a recent interview in which he talks about a Green Lantern reference in the season premiere, as well as the lighter tone for the show.

The Arrow, both the show and the titular character, had a very dark tone in the first three seasons, but now he is moving closer to his comic book roots. Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) is the Green Arrow, and his city is now called Star City. With this change comes a much lighter tone for the series.

"Ever since Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) came to town around [Season 2, Episode 15], the show has been on this very, very dark path, leading to Sara's (Caity Lotz) deth and the culmination of Season 3," Guggeheim told Entertainment Weekly. "Our goal was to return the show more in the tone of the first season-and-a-half."

As you may have seen in the Season 4 trailers, Oliver and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) are living together in domestic bliss, complete with morning jogs and romantic dinners. But Guggenheim assures that the show will not feel out of place when it returns for Season 4.

"It still feels like Arrow, but at the same time, Oliver's got a new outlook on life," Guggenheim says. "We're driving conflict to the show in ways that we would never have in the first three years. So it still feels like Arrow, but it's a different take on the show."

Finally, Guggenheim has repeatedly stated that Green Lantern will not show up in Season 4 of Arrow, but he admitted in the EW interview that the show will reference the character.

"There is a nod or two," he said. "There is a billboard that people will get a kick out of, and there may or may not be a ring in the season premiere."

If we're taking his words literally, then Guggenheim may be playing us. As you can see in the video trailer below, Oliver slips a ring into Felicity's dessert in an attempt to propose to her before Thea (Willa Holland) and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) arrive.
