Before the premiere of The Bastard Executioner, FX is planning a Sons of Anarchy prequel series with creator Kurt Sutter. Should audiences get ready for the return of such iconic characters, such as Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) in the Mayans Motorcycle Club spinoff?

In our series finale recap, Jax said his goodbyes to his kids, leaving Nero (Jimmy Smits) and Wendy (Drea De Matteo) as their guardians. After leaving the club in the hands of Chib (Tommy Flanagan) and Tig (Kim Coates), Jax was speeding across the highway on his father's motorcycle, heading straight towards his death. Nero kept driving towards the farm that he wanted to take Gemma to. Jax's kids would grow up on the farm, without their father beside them.

As we previously mentioned, the Southpaw screenwriter is prepping a potential spinoff to his long-running FX biker drama.Still early in the developmental process, the follow-up will center on the Mayans Motorcycle Club, led by president Marcus Alvarez (played by Emilio Rivera).
On his official Twitter account, Sutter tweeted, "The Mayan Project is very much in the infancy stages. I will be co-creating with another writer who will run the show if it moves forward."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sutter teases a bit more about the upcoming project currently in its earliest stages, "I would do a contemporary piece, not a prequel, and place it far enough away from Northern California that it wouldn't step on the mythology that's already been told. It doesn't mean that there couldn't be some cool, ironic crossovers with familiar characters as the series progressed. I wouldn't want to set it too close to the world we already know, and step on that ... My intent is, over the hiatus I'll initiate a script for the pilot and take it from there."
Sutter adds, "It's the same [biker] subculture, but it'd be interesting to see the influences of [Hispanic] culture and how it impacts the subculture we already understand,"

Kurt Sutter's medieval drama, The Bastard Executioner, premieres September 15 at 10 pm on FX.
