Reports confirm that Sheryl Phillips, the mother of popular "American Idol" champ Phillip Phillips, was arrested and charged with a DUI on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14). According to law enforcement, Mama Phillips was spotted swerving across lanes of traffic in Albany, GA on Thursday. When pulled over, she was unable to complete a field sobriety test and officers had reason to believe that she was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Sheryl has allegedly been going through some tough times over the past few weeks, recently splitting from her hubby and experiencing some intense family problems steaming from tight money issues.

TMZ broke news of the 22-year-old "Home" crooner's mother's arrest Thursday afternoon. Sheryl appeared on several episodes of "AI" during Phillips' winning run on season 11 last year.

Early on Thursday, an undercover police unit discovered Sheryl driving a van recklessly on the streets of her hometown in Georgia. She was promptly pulled over, and officers allegedly had reason to believe that she was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. When she was unable to complete the field sobriety test, the cops took her into custody and transferred her to a local hospital to get checked out. She was later released and taken right to jail - she's currently being booked in Dougherty County.

A source close to the Phillips' clan tells TMZ that Sheryl split from her husband just last week. The young folk-rock star has a rather strained relationship with his parents, after he refused to help them out financially when their family-owned pawn shop went out of business.

Phillips has yet to comment on his mother's arrest.
