Just as the series finale of Sons of Anarchy aired on FX, BOOM! Studios delivers its final issue for SAMCRO comic book series. Be prepared for the final ride of Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman) and Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) in Sons of Anarchy #25, by writer Ryan Ferrier and artist Matías Bergara

In our Sons of Anarchy interview, Ferrier described the impact he wanted to give readers for the final issue, "We don't see this arc as conclusive, in that it takes place early on in the show's universe. Still, we wanted this particular story to have some resonance and certainly pay tribute to the heart of the show-that's where Opie, a big fan favorite, and tragic character, really came into play. We really wanted to explore what family means to these people, and the lengths they endure to cling to it, if they even can. I admit, writing the final pages, and the final dialogue, did tug at my heartstrings, and we wanted the last moments to be impactful. It's a bittersweet ending, knowing that there's still more story that follows the last issue, in the rest of the series."

In our previous review of issue #23 and issue #24, Clay has come up with a deal that could compromise the loyalty of everyone in the motorcycle club. Reeling from the death of his wife, Opie Winston (Ryan Hurst) hits the road, searching for new meaning in his lonely life. Grieving over his heavy loss, Opie goes back to his old job at the lumberyard. Unfortunately, Opie can never stay on the straight and narrow as Jax and Clay argue over their vision of the club.

At his best, Ferrier has such strong handle on characterization, you understand why Opie (Ryan Hurst) is such a tragic character. We get a sense of foreshadowing as Clay orchestrates the final stages of IRA deal, while manipulating Jax at the same time. Bergara knocks it out of the park with his illustrations of Opie standing lonesome in the heavy rainfall. Notice how the rain drowns out color, except for red.

The final issue also comes with a behind-the-scenes making of. Readers get to see how a comic book is made, starting with Ferrier's script and Bergara's sketches.

RATING: Highly Recommended

Fans should not miss out on Ryan Ferrier and Matías Bergara's Sons of Anarchy #25. Ferrier promised an "earthquaking 11.4" finale and he sure delivers at all fronts. First the series finale and now this...this critic is a mess.
