The CW network almost cast Rumer Willis and Ashley Olsen to star in the infamous storyline of Gossip Girl. CW's Casting Director, David Rapaport, admitted in a recent interview, that the network suggested that Willis play the Upper East Side socialite, Serena van der Woodsen. The coveted role eventually went to blonde bombshell, Blake Lively. The other leading role, as we all know, went to Leighton Meester.

"I love Rumer, she's grown into quite an amazing actress and person, but that, to me, was based on protecting the investment of a television show where creatively, these lesser-known girls really captured the essence of the show and carried it for six years," Rapaport said.

Lively, at the time, was at the start of her career and caught Rapaport's eye with her performance in the teen comedy, Accepted.

"Blake Lively was literally the only person I could think of for Serena," Rapaport said. "I had seen her in Accepted and at that time, there were no Lena Dunhams or Zooey Deschanels – it was all about beauty and glamour, but being approachable and Blake was the ultimate 'It Girl.'"

In more revealing news, Olsen, was originally considered for the role of Serena van der Woodsen's best friend, Blair Waldorf, which eventually went to Meester. When it came down to Meester securing the role, there was an one change that she needed to make.

Since Lively obtained her role first, Meester who is a natural blonde, needed to go dark for the role. Rapaport explained, "From there on out, so much of the casting on Gossip Girl became about the hair because Leighton Meester is naturally blonde and the way we got her the job was we dyed her hair.

If there ever was a Gossip Girl reboot, we've love to see who the network would choose to fill the "It" girl Christian Louboutin shoes of today. Emma Roberts and Vanessa Hudgens are a few names that come to mind.
