Selena Gomez Sought Therapy After Fat-Shaming Attack on Instagram

In a shocking revelation, pop singer, Selena Gomez revealed that the unwarranted fat-shaming comments she received on an Instagram photo posted in May had a profound effect on her.  The singer sought therapy after the attack in order to help her find peace with herself and her critics.

Gomez posted a photo of herself, a photo that showed any reasonable person would not find her fat, in a revealing black bikini with the caption "there's more to love."

In an interview this week, Gomez commented on the depressing experience. "I've been working in therapy," Justin Bieber's former girlfriend stated. "I'd land at the airport and people would yell out, 'You're fat!' It was awful."

The negative comments were something new for the "Good For You" singer who has been working in the limelight since the age of 7.

"Even if I did gain weight, I'm fine. That's what the [Instagram] picture represents," Gomez stated.

Gomez spent two weeks in in rehab for an undisclosed reason in 2014 and has since taken to social media to promote self-love and address any haters.

"You know what's interesting? I posted this photo on Instagram and I was like, 'There's more to love and I'm happy with myself,'" she said in a radio interview. "The reason why I did that was because I didn't want them to win. Cause then the next day, it wasn't about how I gained weight, it was about how I embraced it, and that's just kind of my approach."

The news of her seeing a therapist comes out just days before the release of her highly anticipated album, Revival. The pop star has released three tracks for her fans' consumption, and a revealing photo of the album cover on Instagram. We can expect to see a darker, more emotional side of Gomez after the media scrutiny surrounding her past relationship with bad boy crooner, Justin Bieber. Gomez promises her fans that the new album will be the best she's ever created.
