At Night of Champions in September, wrestlers Seth Rollins and Sting squared off for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and Sting, real name Steve Borden, suffered what appeared to be a serious injury during the match. In a new interview, Rollins discussed the injury in detail and described it as a "freak accident."

The WWE World Heavyweight Champion appeared on noted wrestling reporter Sam Roberts' podcast and one of the numerous topics of discussion was the injury that the 56-year-old suffered during his one and likely only WWE world title match.

Near the end of the match, Rollins delivered his signature turnbuckle power bomb to Sting, who took an ugly bump in the corner. After that, Sting tried to perform a move of his own, but he immediately collapsed to his knees. Officials and medical personnel checked on him, and he was able to finish the match. Rollins eventually won the match with a roll-up in what was likely an improvised finish.

"Ironically enough, Sting got a stinger," Rollins told Sam Roberts. "It happens to all of us, but it was just bad timing in his situation. We got through it and he's a professional."

The character Rollins plays on television is an arrogant, delusion, cowardly heel, but the real man behind the character was affected rather deeply by what happened during the match.

"I feel terrible. I was definitely concerned about his health, still am, but after tests and everything, he seems to be okay, so it's all good," the champion said. "He's going to make a good recovery."

Rollins' remarks here are consistent with what Sting himself said in an interview with WWE.com a few days after the match. The icon revealed that immediately after the match ended, Rollins stuck his head into the ambulance that took Sting out of the building and apologized numerous times for what happened. Rollins also told Sting it was an honor to work with him that night.

Finally, Rollins closed the discussion by explaining how these kinds of injuries just happen even now and then.

"I mean, nothing against Sting. He's in phenomenal condition, but he's also a 56-year-old man," Rollins said. "I have taken the bucklebomb myself many times. It's just one of those things. It's a freak accident."
