'Grey's Anatomy' Recap: Meredith Meets Callie's New Girlfriend

Fans of ABC's Grey's Anatomy were left in shock after watching last week's episode, "Old Time Rock and Roll." At the end of the episode, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) opened her front door to welcome Callie (Sara Ramirez) and her new girlfriend to a dinner party that she was hosting. In a surprising twist, Callie's new girlfriend Penny (Samantha Sloyan) was an all too familiar face. Rewind to the end of last season and viewers will remember that Penny was the incapable doctor that essentially killed Meredith's beloved husband Derek Shepard (Patrick Dempsey).

Several episodes have passed this season without one mention of Derek, so it was only a matter of time for Meredith to address her pent up feelings regarding his untimely death.

Fans on Twitter did not know how to handle the ultimate crossroad of feelings with Derek's death, Meredith's attempt to move forward in her life and and the reappearance of Penny. The show's intense final minutes left fans dying to know what happens at next week's episode which will show what happens at Meredith's dinner party. Will Meredith address what Penny did? Is Callie going to defend her new girlfriend? Will the gang start a food fight after figuring out what happened?

Early in the episode, Meredith foreshadowed the earth-shattering meeting when she gave a speech to the interns on how they should address patient's families when explaining that they're loved ones have died. She made it a point to tell them that those families will remember their faces for the rest of their lives because they are the ones who changed their lives from that very moment.

The rest of the episode was much lighter with anti-climactic scenes at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. Stephanie (Jerricka Hinton) revealed her history of struggling with sickle-cell anemia, Maggie (Kelly McCreary) hooked up with Dr. DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) got emotional when an elderly patient died after meeting his soulmate.
