'Defiance' Season 4 Axed: Julie Benz, Grant Bowler Nolan/Amanda Rosewater Syfy Show Cancelled!

Syfy Channel has decided to axe their flagship drama, Defiance, after Season 3. With the cancelled Season 4, actress Julie Benz and actor Grant Bowler will not be returning as their characters, Amanda Rosewater and Joshua Nolan.

According to the official website, in the future of 2047, a fragile peace has been struck between humans and the aliens.Tensions are high with the alien force that once invaded Earth decades earlier. In the frontier town of Defiance, with the truce threatened, Amanda Rosewater and the mysterious Nolan have to survive in this deadly new world.

As reported by Variety, Syfy has optioned not to renew a fourth season of the series. The cancellation news arrives just days after the cable network pulled the plug on Dominion after two seasons. before the ratings decline, Defiance started out as big transmedia experiment for the network to incorporate the series' storylines with the narrative of the video game.

In their statement, Syfy defends their cancellation choice, "'Defiance' was a truly groundbreaking series, delivering an immersive, cross-platform experience that transcended the television screen in a way that viewers had never seen before. We are incredibly proud of the work of the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers - and especially showrunner Kevin Murphy - who together brought the rich world of 'Defiance' to life over its three season arc."

As for the videogame though, Polygon adds, Trion Worlds, which launched the title on PlayStation 3, Windows PC and Xbox 360 is treating the sad news as a "fond farewell" for the TV series.

Scott Hartsman, CEO of Trion Worlds reveals his upcoming plans for the game, "As for the game and its future, Defiance is Trion's IP and the game will continue exactly as before. The show has always been a fantastic and interesting partner, but the two were always meant to be able to stand on their own, which is why the show was primarily set in St. Louis and the game in the SF Bay Area."

Defiance will not be returning to Syfy Channel for a fourth season.
