Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm have released the official trailer to the space opera sage created by filmmaker George Lucas. A familiar face, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) returns to meet a new batch of leads, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

As we previously mentioned, though most of the plot is kept in secrecy, we're pretty sure the narrative is set approximately 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. The end of Darth Vader's reign came with a price for both our heroes and villains. Someone is trying to fill the empty void left by The Emperor, which forces the reunion of old and new faces, including Finn (Boyega) and Rey (Ridley).

Check out our 5 thoughts on the official trailer of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens here:

5) It's Moses! And He's Bringing Hell With Him!

I am a huge fan of the indie sci-fi horror flick, Attack the Block. John Boyega delivered a star-making performance as the conflicted robber, Moses. So there's Moses holding a lightsaber as he faces off with a Sith in the snowy forest! Does this mean he's a Jedi undercover as a Storm Trooper?

4) The Feels Are Strong With The One!

Oh the feels! Didn't it warm your heart to see Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Ford) back in each other's arms? I guess the movie isn't following the Marvel Comics route and binging in Han's other wife to the mythology. There is so much acting going on, especially with we get a closeup of newbie Daisy Ridley in tears.

3) Music To Our Ears!

Also back in the franchise is longtime composer John Williams. Notice how Williams plays around with the popular tracks, keeping the familiar notes but slowing down the rhythm of the melody. The music heightens a moody atmosphere and builds the suspense during the X-wing starfighter flight sequences and Kylo Ren's lightsaber duels.

2) Star Trek! Eat Your Heart Out!

Writer/director J.J. Abrams captured a nail-biting plane crash in the gripping pilot of Lost. Then Abrams rebooted the Star Trek franchise with a younger version of Kirk and Spock. You knew the Star Wars franchise was in capable hands when you saw how Abrams directed that spaceship chase scene in Star Trek: Into Darkness.

1) Where's Luke Skywalker?

Mark Hamill had quite a busy year, especially with his cameo appearance in Kingsman: The Secret Service and his scene-stealing role as the Trickster in The Flash. So where's Skywalker in the poster and trailer? Or is it possible that he's been there all along? Could Luke have become twisted by the dark side, like his father before him? Is Luke the Big Bad of this new chapter?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives in theaters December 18.

Readers, what did you think of the official trailer?
