Stephen Merchant and Analeigh Tipton will guest star on an upcoming episode CBS' Monday night comedy The Big Bang Theory. Details about their specific roles have not been released but their characters are rumored to have scenes with Sheldon and Amy.

Tipton will be playing a new character as this is her second appearance on the show. Awhile back, Tipton played herself on the show when Raj and Howard tried to sneak into America's Next Top Model house.

Sheldon and Amy are going through a rough patch this season and it looks like it may stay that way for a little longer than fans would like. Executive Producer Steve Molaro told The Hollywood Reporter, "Right now, the dynamic has been fascinating and interesting," he said. "We're seeing all new colors for both of them as well as the way it impacts the group. There's not a set plan – we're feeling this out along in same way Amy is."

Mayim Bialik who plays Amy assured fans in an interview that Sheldon and Amy are just getting some space. "This is not a breakup," Bialik said. "My mom kept asking me why all of her neighbors are asking if I'm kicked off the show. Amy needs space and the first episode explores how Sheldon deals with that notion."

It isn't easy to be in a relationship with Sheldon and Amy is tired of their relationship moving much slower than she'd like. Molaro, who also writes for the show, understands her frustration.

"They're very quirky birds and in some ways they're made for each other, but also it can be frustrating," he said. "It's not just that it's slow, it's slow and he requires a lot of patience. You have to put up with a lot and there's craziness."

The Big Bang Theory has had an impressive list of guest stars on the show over the years. Big names include Bob Newhart, Billy Bob Thornton, Buzz Aldrin, Christine Baranski and George Takei.
