Games of Thrones fans may have to wait longer than they anticipated for the upcoming Season 6 premiere. HBO announced earlier this week that the February premiere dates for the new drama Vinyl, Girls and Togetherness. Vinyl is set to air on Valentine's Day in a 2-hour slot and the comedies will premiere a week later. The winter series will likely be in the way of the GOT premiere date, much to fans disappointment.

Vinyl, the new drama that is making waves in the schedule will have a 2-hour premiere episode and run for 10 weeks. The rock n' roll drama has Martin Scorsese, Terence Winter, and Mick Jagger tied to the project and is sure to keep viewers glued to its Sunday evening timeslot.

HBO's tradition for original programming involves showing just two hours on one night a week. Since the Emmy winning drama tends to debut later in the spring and has no premiere date just yet, it's likely that the show will be pushed back past April. All three winter series will have 10-episodes this season, making it almost impossible for Thrones to return anytime sooner.

There is a slight glimmer of hope for GOT fans, however. HBO could decide to air the drama in April and have it coincide with the last two weeks of the winter comedies. The option would only work if the network decides to move it ahead of its usual lineup with Veep and Silicon Valley.

Another popular guess for the GOT delay is that the later date will give Penguin Randomhouse and George R.R. Martin more time to finish the the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, Winds of Winter. This way, fans can read the latest installment prior to the Season 6 premiere.

In more book news, fans found out earlier this year that the seventh book will not be released in time for the HBO's conclusion of the series. Creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff will have the creative first dibs at ending the saga.
