Following the horrific attacks in Paris a few days ago, which Islamic extremist group ISIS is reportedly taking credit for, Saturday Night Live opened their show this past weekend with a low-key cold open starring key player Cecily Strong.

Rather than poking fun at the news of the week, Strong appeared alone onstage, delivering a message of hope unto the city of Paris, asserting its denizens that New York City stands with them.

"Paris is the city of light," she said. "And here in New York City, we know that light will never go out. Our love and support is with everyone there tonight. We stand with you."

Strong then delivered the same message in flawless French, ending it with a mellow, but touching, "Live from New York, it's Saturday night."

Saturday Night Live's opener came after Friday's attacks in Paris, in which more than 120 people reportedly died in result of several massive terroristic strikes against people in various parts of the city.

The attacks hit a concert hall, restaurants and bars, and a stadium all within the city.

After the attack, ISIS claimed responsibility, noting that "eight of its militants wearing explosive belts and armed with machine guns selected targets in the city," according to CNN.

Saturday night's episode of SNL welcomed in host Elizabeth Banks and musical guest Sam Smith.
