Rising MMA Star Angela Lee is Only 19 & Could Be The Next Ronda Rousey?

Angela Lee is causing quite the stir in the world of MMA. The 19-year-old has caught the eyes of basically everybody with a string of impressive performances, many going so far to deem her the next big thing. Perhaps she could even the next Ronda Rousey.

Lee's father -- a black belt in Taekwondo form Singapore -- began training his daughter in the martial arts from an early age. After spending much of her life in Hawaii, Lee moved back to Singapore to join the fight team at Evolve MMA, where she's been wowing spectators ever since. So much so that it's not totally absurd to compare her to the best woman to ever do participate in MMA.

Perhaps it's in poor taste to dub someone the next Ronda Rousey only hours after her first professional loss. (You can see the knockout here.) However, comparisons are part of sports traditions so let's examine the similarities between these two fighters. Like Rousey, Lee finishes her fights quickly. Her most recent victory over Natalie Gonzales Hills of the Philippines took just over two minutes. Which would be impressive if it wasn't so ordinary for her. All of her professional fights, and even her three previous amateur fights, concluded in the first round. Lee's latest victory -- submission via an armbar -- extends her unbeaten mixed martial arts streak to three wins.

"It's just my style of fighting. I finish fights very quickly and the way I fight, it just ends..." she said, via CNBC.

While Lee has only three professional fights to her name, the 19-year-old packs more than just a heavy punch. She's confident, versatile and dominant. It's no wonder she's already earned the nickname "unstoppable." One does question whether or not "unstoppable" is the right moniker after just three fights. Perhaps, "on a roll" would be more suitable.

Yes, appointing anybody the next Rousey is risky business -- especially when that fighter is still just a teenager. However, Lee is someone who has all the tools to do it. If she continues ascending on her current path, it may be all but a formality to find her atop the sport in the years to come.
