Reports confirm that Kevin Signo, an 18-year-old Baylor University freshman, died Sunday (March 3) following a freak back-flip accident during dance practice for the school's Filipino Student Association on Saturday. During a break from the routine dance practice, Signo attempted the dangerous acrobatic stunt and ultimately hit his forehead on the hard ground and suffered a fatal spinal injury. The Frisco, Texas native was promptly transported to a local hospital and put on life support - he passed away due to complications at approximately 4 a.m. the following morning. Signo was set to celebrate his 19 th birthday later this month and had plans of becoming a doctor following graduation.

Fellow dancer and classmate Nathan Elequin confirmed to the student newspaper The Baylor Lariat that Signo's swelling of the brain had become so extreme by Sunday morning that he was taken off of life support. Signo died "doing what he loved," Elequin said.

Signo was one among several students practicing traditional Filipino dances with the student association on Saturday when the accident occurred. The young man's parents Henry and Jackie Signo told NBC that their typically shy son had blossomed at Baylor - he enjoyed playing soccer and dancing and was a member of the group Poppers, Lockers and Breakers.

Signo, who had dreams of becoming a doctor, was also an official organ donor. The freshman had legal documents drawn up donating his eyes, skin, bones, and organs. According to Jackie Signo, "He knew exactly what could be used for and what was important."

"We're very happy to have had him for a short time," Henry Signo added.

A funeral is planned for Saturday, March 9 in Allen, Texas. Dozens of fellow students are expected to attend. Signo's parents said they plan on creating a scholarship in their son's memory and honor.

Thoughts and condolences go out to Signo's family and friends during this time of tragedy.
