Chloe Grace Moretz Talks 2 Gay Brothers - "No One Should Care About Orientation"

Chloe Grace Moretz might be just 18 years old, but this young woman has wisdom far beyond her years. The actress, who will be next appearing in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, opened up about discrimination and explained what it was like growing up with two gay brothers. The youngest of four says that it was extremely sad watching her brothers face discrimination growing up and that she hopes she can use her position to bring awareness to the issues still very much present in our society.

According to PEOPLE, the If I Stay star explained that watching her two brothers come out when she was in middle school was especially hard as she watched the anxiety that it caused them.

"To see my bothers struggle with the anxiety of having to come out was awful, she explained in the new issue of Nylon magazine.

"People would call them the F-word, and I would get so angry," Mortez recalled. "It was really hard to see my brothers be hated on or bullied, so I stood up for them. We shouldn't be using these terms to create more labels and segregate us further apart than we already are."

"The problem is we live in a society where we have to say the words, 'I'm coming out.' No one should care what your sexual orientation is, what color your skin is, or if you're a man or a woman," the actress continued, according to E! News.

Mortez also explained that she learned acceptance at a very young age, as her family has always been super supportive of everyone.

"We were a very open household," the actress explained, mentioned a time when her mom let her son wear a pink Power Ranger costume, much to the confusion of other people, because it made him happy.

The star also mentioned that she is planning on using her status as an actress to bring more visibility to the issues and to fight for equality for all.
