Derek Jeter had a long and illustrious baseball career with baseball's most popular franchise, the New York Yankees. The shortstop enjoyed much success, winning a handful of World Series titles and plenty of personal accolades as well. With a career like his – especially in a town like New York – there was never a shortage of talk-worthy points. Specifically, rumors. And while there were plenty of them, one stands out amongst the rest: the infamous gift basket rumor.

The story originated from the New York Post back in 2011. If you're not familiar with it, here it is in a nutshell: Derek Jeter, one of New York's most eligible bachelor's, played the field (off the diamond, too). Women knew this, women didn't care – they came back to his apartment; they watched cartoons and drank Capri suns (presumably), and the women left in the morning after a wild night of cartoon network and one too many juice boxes.

However, she wasn't to leave without a proper display of gratitude: a care package with Derek Jeter memorabilia. The women would take the package – or not, who knows; maybe she wasn't a baseball fan – never to be seen again.

But of course, this is just wild speculation. In a recent interview with Joe Buck on Buck's new show Undeniable, Jeter discussed this allegation, and more, putting any rumor mills to bed with a warm glass of milk.

"It's a dumb story," Jeter said. "And you really have to be dumber to believe it. But they believe it.

"You come up with this stuff and it follows you around like it's factual. I don't address them, because I think once you address them, you have to address every single rumor that comes out. So I choose not to address any rumors that are out there, but that's got to be the dumbest one I've heard."

Okay, there you have it – Jeter did not indulge in any of this gift basket nonsense. That'd just be ridiculous.

Taking Jeter's word for it because he seems like a nice guy, we'll chalk it up to nothing more than a rumor. A dumb one, at that.
