IFC announced today that it will greenlight a Will Ferrel, Ben Stiller, Bob Odenkirk and Adam McKay produced, six-part "epic spoof" series entitled "The Spoils Of Babylon." The show will be a television adaptation of the work of "The Birthday Boys, a popular sketch comedy troupe, and will also feature them. Will Ferrel is set to star as the author and narrator of a fictitious epic novel, with the story coming to life through the sketches. It will "span a century of sex-and-drink-fueled catastrophes, from war and illegal arms deals and the subprime mortgage disaster." An ensemble cast is expected to be involved and the show will broadcast in 30-minute installments starting later this year.

Producers Odenkirk and Stiller worked together on the sketch show, "The Ben Stiller Show," which is a cult hit. Now they are helping the next generation of sketch comedians come into the game.

"The Birthday Boys" have garnered a lot of success on the website Funny or Die, which Ferrel and McKay are highly involved with. They pitched "The Spoils Of Babylon" as a being in the vein of Monty Python and "Mr. Show" (which featured Odenkirk). The addition of Will Farrel is almost a guaranteed success. You can check out their work HERE, but below we have provided an example of their talent. Enjoy!

What do you think? Will this be something to look forward to? Did "The Birthday Boys" videos sell you on the show or are you more interested in Ferrel's role? Is IFC the right place for such a show? They have had success with "Portlandia," so perhaps it is fitting for another sketch show. Personally, I have been a fan of this group for a while so this is exciting. Also, they work with actress Angela Trimbur a lot. I have a crush on her. That is all.
