Rumors started swirling this week that Matt Ryan would appear as John Constantine on Season 2 of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, but now it looks like that may not happen after all.

Bleeding Cool reported on Thanksgiving that Ryan would once again reprise his role as the titular character from the canceled NBC series Constantine as part of an interesting format for Legends of Tomorrow. According to the site, the spinoff "is planning to radically switch casts and missions each season."

But on Friday, the site backed off a bit from its initial report, as it looks like there might be some stumbling blocks to getting Ryan onto the show or even getting a second season of the show onto the air at all.

"I'm hearing from another well connected source that the show is incredibly expensive and they're not sure if they'll go with a second season, and instead replace it with a totally different show for it," Bleeding Cool reported. "So, basically, any discussion about who is and isn't in season two may be more of a bucket list."

This is a valid point that always needs to be in consideration when discussing Legends of Tomorrow. For starters, consider that the considerable roster of stars needs to be paid. Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/The Atom), Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/White Canary), Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Heat Wave), Victor Garber (Martin Stein/Firestorm), Franz Drameh (Jefferson Jackson/Firestorm), Ciara Renee (Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl), Falk Hentschel (Carter Hall/Hawkman), and Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter) are all series regulars.

And we haven't even gotten to recurring characters such as Casper Crump as Vandal Savage or guest appearances from actors on the other series such as Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/The Arrow or Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash.

Factor in the considerable special effects cost for this series (as opposed to Arrow, which relies on more practical effects) and you could understand how a second season might not be the most prudent financial move for the network.
