Laura Marling, England's 23-year-old British-Americana phenomenon, has just announced her fourth studio album, Once I Was an Eagle. This is her follow up to 2011's A Creature I Don't Know and seems to follow her obsession with six-syllable album titles (2008's Alas, I Cannot Swim and 2010's I Speak Because I Can). Marling is a prominent name in the popular London folk scene and won the 2011 BRIT award for "Best Female Solo Artist" and was nominated again in 2012. Surely her next album will garner her a nomination in 2014 as well.
She has toured and worked with many successful indie acts including Mumford & Sons and Noah & the Whale. Laura dated both singers of each band, Marcus Mumford and Charlie Fink respectively. She has worked alongside Ryan Adams on a few special performances and was even credited by the singer for kick starting his career again.
Once I Was an Eagle is produced by Ethan Johns who is Marling's longtime collaborative producer. Below we have included her first single, "Where Can I Go?" It is a refreshing folk song featuring Marling's smoky vocals back by her great guitar work, surrounded by soaring organs and thumping drums. If you have not heard her before, this is a very good introduction to Laura Marling's style. It is no wonder that she is consistently nominated for and winning awards for her music.
So what do you think? Will she finally get a Grammy nomination to add to her list of accreditations? Check out the tracklist below.
