SuperGirl, The Flash and Arrow UNITE! Why not? That would be perfect! Producer Greg Berlanti discussed the possibility of a CBS and CW superhero crossover to which Arrowverse fans roared with excitement. Now the tables have turned as show runners say the crossover can't happen because of "legal ramifications." Fans demand a straight answer. Crossover or nah?

Crossover Controversy

SuperGirl, Flash and Arrow fans have been reaching for the Excedrin lately because of swirling, conflicting rumors from CBS and CW producers about a possible crossover episode. As previously reported by MStars, CBS executives were considering the crossover, but it was just lower on the list of crossover priorities. Greg Berlanti, the executive producer of all three shows, mentioned last year that SuperGirl could have the potential to "enter the worlds of Arrow and The Flash."

Arrowverse and Supergirl fans were certain the crossover would happen, especially with recent headlines that CBS ordered seven additional episodes of SuperGirl. One of these has to be dedicated to a crossover episode right? Adding to the certainty of a crossover episode is the Vanity Fair cover depicting both SuperGirl and The Flash together.

This week, the media execs started singing a different tune, telling fans that the cross network combo episode CAN NOT happen because of legal ramifications. Wait. Back up. What?

Executive producer, Andrew Kreisberg, explained to Hollywood Reporter that there may be some tricky legal hurdles to cross in order to consider a crossover episode.

"There's always those late nights, delirious, semi-high on pizza where you're like, 'You know what would be really cool? If ...,' " Kreisberg said. "But right now there is no legitimate actual plan to bring [The Flash's] Cisco [Carlos Valdes] onto Supergirl or to bring [Supergirl's] Winn [Jeremy Jordan] onto Legends of Tomorrow. First of all, we don't even know if we could, legally. And quite frankly, just making the Arrow-verse, which is what we call Legends, Flash and Arrow work and then making Supergirl work, it's enough of a challenge without having to add a fourth player," said Kreisberg.

Okay, but fans are confused because CBS and Warner Brothers owns CW and Greg Berlanti created all three shows. So what legal ramifications or roadblocks? These are questions that need answers. There have been no further details other than the cloudy, "we don't know if we could, legally."

So are multi-network crossovers illegal?

Interesting question. CBS chief, Nina Tassler stated that there are promotional multi-network crossovers in the works for all DC Comics shows. Plus, there have been numerous multi-network crossovers in the past like between ABC and Fox.

Stay tuned as the plot unfolds.

Supergirl airs on CBS Monday nights at 8pm EST. The Flash airs on The CW on Tuesdays at 8pm EST, and Arrow airs on The CW on Wednesdays at 8pm EST.
