The Revenant star Leonardo DiCaprio is finally speaking out about the rumors that his character in the film gets raped by a bear, calling the rumors "absurd," among other things. DiCaprio attended the Wednesday premiere of the awards-buzzy film, where he discussed his thoughts and initial reaction to the rumors.

Earlier this month, the Drudge Report reported that DiCaprio's character, Hugh Glass, gets raped on two occasions in the film. One of the occasions is the much-talked about initial attack sequence where Glass is repeatedly mauled within inches of his life.

However, according to this report (which spread like wildfire after being posted), the bear is also seen thrusting on top of DiCaprio's character during the mauling. Drudge Report also claimed that people walked out of the theater in disgust over the scene.

The rumors were quickly dispelled once critics saw the movie and reported that no rape scene takes place. In the film, the bear only attacks Glass in order to protect her cubs.

DiCaprio stayed mum on the topic, leaving Fox to clear up the rumors in a statement to the press, which said, "As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs. There is clearly no rape scene with a bear."

Now, DiCaprio is sharing his thoughts. At the Wednesday premiere for the film, DiCaprio said he had "no idea where these ridiculous things come from, and what [do] you do when you hear stuff like that?" In any case, he called the reports "absurd."

The Revenant is the tale of frontiersman Hugh Glass who is mauled by a bear and left for dead by the people responsible for taking care of him (one of whom is played by Tom Hardy).

Glass heals and vows to get revenge on those who left him. The film, which is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, opens on Dec. 25.
