The official synopsis for Suicide Squad has just been released, and it sounds like the gang will be up against a mysterious DC villain! But the big question is, who is the powerful adversary that Task Force X needs to defeat?

The San Diego Comic-Con trailer for Suicide Squad has already confirmed that Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) have been brought together by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) for a secret mission. But what is this assignment? The official synopsis for the film has been revealed by DCComics.com, and an excerpt reads as follows:

"Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity."

So who will be the group's mystery opponent? Here are some guesses on who the unknown character will be.

Batman (Ben Affleck)

Although Bruce Wayne is technically not a DC villain, the inmates of Belle Reve (and Waller) see Affleck's character as an enemy and a threat to Gotham City. Waller might be trying to put the Dark Knight away for good with the help of the same criminals that he helped put away, or they could be a different superhero.

Superman (Henry Cavill)

Kal-El may be the farthest thing from a bad guy, but the objective of the task is to "defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity" and he just happens to fit the description. It's also no secret that not everyone is a fan of the Man of Steel in the new DC Extended Universe. So could they be after Superman or perhaps a different Kryptonian?

Doomsday (Michael Shannon)

The recent trailer for Batman v Superman has revealed that the two superheroes will be going up against General Zod's reanimated corpse. Is it possible that the villain could be too much for the Caped Crusader and the Son of Jor-El, so much that the government has to get some backup?

The Joker (Jared Leto)

The Suicide Squad SDCC trailer has definitely established that the Clown Prince of Crime is not part of Task Force X, so does this mean he is against them? Better yet, is The Joker the reason why they have been brought together?

Enchantress (Cara Delevingne)

This isn't the first time that Enchantress has been rumored to be the Big Bad in Suicide Squad. There were previous speculations pointing to her appearance in the SDCC trailer, where she is never seen together with the rest of the team. It has even been reported that the character is actually planning to resurrect her dead brother and is threatening to destroy the world in the process.

Find out who the major villain will be when Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
