While the rest of the country was busying enjoying the likes of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler this past weekend on Saturday Night Live, the denizens of the great state of Iowa found themselves at the receiving end of some conservative comedy from the likes of Sen. Ted Cruz. It's being reported that the presidential candidate, who recently appeared in the final GOP debate, aired a family Christmas commercial during the famed NBC sketch series – only in Iowa.

"In the spirit of the upcoming holiday," the Cruz campaign said in an interview with Independent Journal, "we are excited to bring a Cruz family Christmas into the homes of SNL viewers in Iowa."

The below commercial shows Cruz and his family sitting on a couch as the GOP hopeful – wearing cowboy boots in 2015!? – reads some rare Christmas books.

Here's a brief rundown of the names: How Obamacare Stole Christmas, Rudolph the Underemployed Reindeer, Frosty the Speaker of the House and Auditing St. Nick.

Of course, with all of the Christmas "classics" that speak out against the Democratic Party and the hard times our country is going through, there's one saving grace (allegedly) among them all: The Senator Who Saved Christmas.

"This is a good one!" claims Cruz in the ad.

Per the report in the Journal, Cruz has been a longtime fan of Saturday Night Live. With that in mind, they tell the publication, "The chance to film his SNL-style commercial was an opportunity we couldn't pass up!"

Oddly enough, while Cruz was busy dropping the above ad during Saturday Night Live, the series itself was poking fun at the Texas senator. SNL key player Taran Killam portrayed Cruz in this past Saturday's cold open, which poked fun at the final GOP debate from last Tuesday.

And, as you'd suspect, the show didn't really hold back.

"Wolf, if I'm president, ISIS will hate me," said Killam (as Cruz), "And how do I know? Because everyone who knows me hates me."
