DC heroine Vixen has just been confirmed to make her live-action debut in the CW series Arrow, where she will be joining an amazing list of female comic book characters that are currently dominating the world of TV! Here Are 5 Female Comic Book Heroes Who Rock The TV World.

The shape-shifting model will be portrayed by Megalyn Echikunwoke, who voiced the character in her own animated series. Vixen is expected to make her big appearance in the 15th episode of Arrow, which will air on February 24, 2016. In celebration of Vixen's TV debut, here are 5 of the best female comic book characters who can hold their own in the male-dominated world of prime time television.

Laurel "Black Canary" Lance, Arrow

There is no doubt that Vixen will be rubbing elbows with Katie Cassidy's attorney-turned-vigilante in Arrow. Laurel may still be a new ally for Oliver Queen since she took over for her recently resurrected sister, but she is slowly holding her own with the help of combat training and her ultrasonic collar, the Canary Cry.

Black Canary makes it to the list for proving that you don't need to quit your day job to fight crime in the more straight-forward way. Plus, she looks amazing while beating the crap out of her enemies.

Trish "Patsy" Walker, Jessica Jones

Although she wasn't the original choice for Jessica's best friend in the series, Hellcat has become a perfect fit in the world of Jessica Jones. She may not have any superpowers in the show, but Rachael Taylor's Trish manages to fight back with her martial arts skills, and even has one of the most poignant backstories in the Netflix series.

Trish is proof that the lead's moral compass and sidekick don't necessarily have to be a damsel in distress all the time. At one point, she actually becomes the hero, who saves Jessica and is probably the only person who ever managed to get her best friend to say, "I love you."

Peggy Carter, Agent Carter

She was a scene-stealer in Captain America: The First Avenger and Peggy went on to star in a Marvel One Shot short film as well as her very own TV series. Hayley Atwell plays the Strategic Scientific Reserve officer who proves to be much smarter than Iron Man's father Howard Stark, and much stronger without the help of Steve Rogers, during the late 1940s.

Peggy stands out for representing an independent woman who holds her own in a time where the ladies were expected to let men save them. Her superpower appears to be her eternally impeccable hair as well as her ability to get the job done.

Kara Zor-El, Supergirl

The cousin of Kal-El has finally stepped out of Superman's shadow in her own CBS TV show, where she finally learns to embrace her powers.

Melissa Benoist does an excellent job at playing the awkward Kara Danvers as well as the young heroine who eventually proves she doesn't need a famous cousin to save the world. Despite being an alien, Kara is revealed to be just like everybody else; somehow insecure and hoping for acceptance. She's powerful, alright, but Kara shows that it is not her superpowers that makes her special; it's the part of her that remains human despite the fact that she was born in Krypton.

Jessica Jones, Jessica Jones

A true modern-age superheroine, Krysten Ritter's snarky private investigator has won the love of viewers for being a character strong enough to carry her own heavy-hitting TV show. The best thing about Jessica Jones is that the series decided to do away with the fancy superhero stuff and focused on the human side of the character, which is much more alluring anyway.

In addition to having superhuman strength, Jessica manages to lead a series filled with strong female characters and save the world from an insuperable villain. To top it all off, it wasn't her powers that helped her break free from Kilgrave (David Tennant); it was her anguish over having to kill an innocent woman; proving that good intentions always win over ill intent. Still, it was extremely entertaining to watch her beat the crap out of Kilgrave.
