Beyonce's man will be "jazzing" up the new The Great Gatsby movie soundtrack!
It was confirmed by Reuters yesterday that rapper Jay-Z will serve as The Great Gatsby soundtrack's executive producer and contribute original music to Leo DiCaprio's new highly anticipated movie.
Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter said he will bring a modern "Jazz Age" energy to the soundtrack for the adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel of 1920s America. He also promised the score will feature "the world's top musical artists," which is an easy guarantee when your wife is superstar Beyonce and you count Kanye West and Chris Martin among your friends, notes LA Times.
Blue Ivy's dad can also thank another one of his friends for this awesome hookup. The multi-platinum rapper/mogul was introduced to Baz Luhrmann by the new "Gatsby" Leonardo DiCaprio and this led to a two-year collaboration.
"Leonardo and I were lucky enough to be present in a recording session over two years ago as Jay-Z was recording 'No Church in the Wild,' and the collaboration grew from there" stated the Gatsby writer/producer/director.
Jay-Z added,"As soon as I spoke with Baz and Leonardo, I knew this was the right project."
According to the official statement, "Jay-Z worked with Luhrmann and his team to capture, translate and contrast the feelings of Fitzgerald's decadent era with that of our own, using hip-hop and jazz, music contemporary and period, to bring two distinct American moments to simultaneous life."
Jay-Z's contributions, woven amongst a score by long-time Luhrmann collaborator, composer Craig Armstrong, drive Gatsby's champagne-infused dance floors, rumble in New York's illegal speakeasies, and foreshadow the tragedy behind Gatsby's "extraordinary gift for hope." To articulate the film's "1920s-Meets-Now" sound, JAY Z also comes to "The Great Gatsby" soundtrack as a performer and contributor of original music.
An early trailer for the film featured Jay-Z's hit, "No Church in the Wild," his 2011 collaboration with Kanye West that earned him his 17th Grammy in February, states LA Times.
This isn't the first time Jay has produced music inspired by film. He anchored his 2007 album, "American Gangster" around the Ridley Scott-directed crime drama of the same name, which starred Denzel Washington.
The soundtrack of the film, which opens on May 10, will be released on Interscope Records though an exact date is not yet known.
