In basketball, a "top 5" is something that is routinely, and hotly, debated. You know, what's your all-time starting 5, who are the best 5 players in the game today/ever, or who would you want on your team in a pick-up game with the in-laws. Of course, there are a lot of variables and it's all opinion, so there is no one right answer. Unless, that is, your name is Kobe Bryant. Then it's basically the first amendment.

In a recent global media conference call, which included 146 reporters from 24 countries and territories, the largest such call in league history, Bryant partook in a Q&A. He talked retirement, legacy, Lakers, All-Star weekend, and more. He also gave his top 5. Specifically, the toughest 5 opponents he's played against.

This question, posed by a reporter: "Hello, Kobe. So what were the top five best players and the best teams you've faced in your career in the NBA."

Kobe answered first with the teams, listing the 2008 Celtics and 04' Pistons, among others. Then, it was the players.

"Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant, LeBron james, Clyde Drexler," said Bryant. "I have to--players is a little tougher for me because I came in the league where there were so many great players playing like John Stockton was still playing; Clyde Drexler was still playing. Gery Payton, Anfernee--I mean it was a lot of--so the top five players is a little tough for me."

A formidable five, for sure. However, it's not without a few interesting snubs. Guys like Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, or Dwayne Wade. Malone, Stockton, and Barkley aren't there either. But perhaps the most interesting exclusion is one Shaquille O'Neal, Bryant's Robin (or Batman, depending on who you ask) to his Batman for a number of years in L.A. A number of years that enjoyed much success, too.

To be fair though, it was strictly a question about the best player's that he's gone up against, not necessarily his all-time best 5. So read into it what you will. But remember, it's Kobe Bryant we're talking about. His basketball word is law.
