We haven't heard from former "Baywatch" star David Hasselhoff for quite some time. The "Britain's Got Talent" judge was on a downward slide for a while, but it looks like "The Hoff" has a far more important project in mind outside of his acting and singing careers. Hasselhoff is joining Germans in an attempt to help preserve the Berlin Wall.
Hasselhoff has put his name behind a campaign to preserve one of the last remaining sections of the famous Berlin Wall. Hasselhoff, along with a number of other Berliners protested a possible real estate move that would knock down the remaining parts of the wall for luxury housing development. The former "Knight Rider" star said, "It's like tearing down an Indian burial ground. It's a no-brainer."
Although he has usually been the butt of jokes for his popularity in Germany, the actor and singer is indeed very popular in the area. Hasselhoff became famous in Germany after singing his hit song "Looking for Freedom" to a million people outside the Berlin Wall in a 1989 New Year's Eve event. The singer's song was used for a peaceful revolution.
Plans to get rid of a three-quarter-mile stretch of wall that has been painted by artists sparked protests earlier this month. Protesters will know more next week when they find out if a compromise can be agreed upon. If not, Hasselhoff plans on coming back and rocking Berlin. "If it goes to the next step, we'll come back with a huge concert and really rock Berlin," said Hasselhoff.
The American actor also said that the wall is sacred and it's more than a piece of real estate. "This last piece of the wall is really sacred,' said 'The Hoff.' 'It's about people and it's about hearts that were broken, hearts that were torn apart and lives that were lost. That's what we're talking about today, not a piece of real estate."
