The upcoming standalone film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been shrouded in mystery since it was announced last year, with only a few details known about the movie. So it was exciting to find that Ben Mendelsohn is finally talking about what to expect in Rogue One!

The Australian actor recently spoke to Deadline about the first Star Wars Anthology film, although he didn't give up too many details.

"I wouldn't want to spoil anything for anyone on those levels ... But you can expect something pretty special, I'd like to think," Mendelsohn said.

The Primetime Emmy Award nominee also admitted that he enjoyed Star Wars: The Force Awakens and feels like the movie has set the bar pretty high for Rogue One.

"I was in the audience for number seven and it was delightful," Mendelsohn said. "It exceeded my wildest hopes and dreams for what it might be. It's a beautiful film. So we've got something to reach for and that's a good thing."

Although Rogue One will be set in the same Star Wars universe as The Force Awakens, the movie takes place several years before Episode VII and will feature a complete lack of Jedi and Sith. Instead of focusing on the ongoing Skywalker saga, Rogue One will follow a group of rebels who steal the plans for the Death Star and were originally mentioned in Episode IV: A New Hope.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards and also stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen and Jonathan Aris. The film is scheduled for release on December 16.
