Kobe Bryant Drops 62 Points Against Dallas Mavericks: Remembering Legendary NBA Performance 9 Years Later

By Joseph Trezza | Dec 21, 2014 01:52 PM EST

Saturday, Dec. 20, marked the nine-year anniversary of one of the greatest NBA performances of all time, one that could have been even better. On Dec. 20, 2005, Kobe Bryant torched the Dallas Mavericks for 62 points in a game the Los Angeles Lakers won 112-90. The most amazing thing about the performance? Bryant scored all 62 points through just three quarters, according to ESPN. After three quarters, the score was Bryant 62, entire Mavericks team 61. This year is shaping up to be a swan song of sorts for Bryant. The Lakers are one of the worst teams in the NBA at 8-18 and sit in 13th place in the Western Conference. Plans to rebuild around Bryant have not gone well, due to roster construction and injuries. But Bryant recently passed Michael Jordan for third place on the all-time NBA scoring list, and his presence still provides the Staples Center with sell-out crowds. So it's a fitting time to remember one of his best performances. Read More »

Kobe Bryant Tops Michael Jordan: LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Snoop Dog, MJ React- Laker Star NBA's 3rd All-Time Scorer

By Jaymz Clements | Dec 15, 2014 04:30 PM EST

Kobe Bryant passed Michael Jordan in all-time NBA scoring as the Lakers beat the Timberwolves 100-94 on Sunday. With the L.A. Lakers superstar needing nine points to surpass the Chicago Bulls legend, it took two free throws - courtesy of a Zach LaVine foul - to put the Lakers shooting guard into third spot on the all-time points leaders for the NBA. With it came an avalanche of tributes from Magic Johnson, Snoop Dog, LeBron James, Arsenio Hall and, fittingly, from Michael Jordan himself. Read More »

Yasiel Puig's Instagram: L.A. Dodgers OF Parties With DJ Khaled, Plays FIFA, Tributes Kobe Bryant

By Joseph Trezza | Dec 15, 2014 12:56 PM EST

Yasiel Puig spent last week celebrating his 24th birthday appearing on video game covers and selling a whole mess of vitamin water. How would the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar follow that? Could it be topped? Turns out he spent this week — during which the Dodgers completely overhauled their roster — mainly chilling. That is, according to his Instragram. Puig made nine posts to Instagram this week, an Adrian Gonzalez-like slow week for him that started with a snap of him and DJ Khaled because, you know, they the best. But after that things died down in the life of Yasiel Puig, which apparently means playing a lot of FIFA. Puig's from Cuba and he's 24, so the fact that he unwinds with FIFA isn't exactly a suprise. But that he's this proud of his wins maybe is. Puig published four FIFA videos to Instagram this week, the first three followed immediately by two of grainy footage of a muscular man climbing out of a pool. Boy, would a translator help out here. Then a day later Puig honored his fellow Los Angeles sports star Kobe Bryant with a fitting tribute when Bryant passed Michael Jordan to become third on the all-time NBA scoring list. The photo is a graphic of Bryant driving to the hoop and Puig, next to him, bowing — because it seems that trip to Japan had a lasting impression on young Yasiel. Above the graphic is a list of the NBA all-time scoring leaderboard, with Bryant highlighted above Jordan. Maybe this is an elaborate marketing ploy by Puig to make him more L.A.-likable, or maybe the kid just admires greatness. He has the potential for it one day for sure. Read More »

[WATCH] Kobe Bryant Passes MJ On NBA Scoring List

By Joseph Trezza | Dec 15, 2014 12:06 PM EST

Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant needed just nine points Sunday, Dec. 14, to etch his name above Michael Jordan's on the NBA all-time scoring list. It took him less than two quarters. Bryant tied and then passed Jordan with two free throws with 5:24 left before halftime while the Lakers were taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minnesota. Pro-Timberwolves and pro-Jordan fans jeered from the crowd as Bryant warmed up on the line. Some people just don't like to see history surpassed, and all the Bryant vs. Jordan debate that raged this week couldn't have sat well with the purists. But the Timberwolves themselves were more gracious hosts, stopping the game to congratulate Bryant individually after his record-setting free throws. Bryant now sits behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387) and Karl Malone (36,928) on the all-time list. Read More »

Magic Johnson Wants the Los Angeles Lakers to Completely Tank

By Joseph Trezza | Dec 09, 2014 08:26 PM EST

Johnson's cryptic statement really means he wants the Lakers to get bad enough to put themselves in a position to get better. A bad record means a better chance at high picks in the NBA Draft. Is Anthony Davis Better Than Kevin Durant & Carmelo Anthony?

By Kenneth Brown | Dec 05, 2014 05:46 PM EST

When Anthony Davis came in to the NBA, many projected that he'd be an elite-level star, but not many knew just how good he'd grow to be, and how much better he can still become. He is now being considered "as good as" or "better" than the likes of Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony, and it's safe to say his New Orleans Pelicans have a top talent on their hands, and one who many believe can dominate the league for the next ten years- at least. The NBA never sleeps, and the drama never stops. Phil Jackson has slammed his former team, the LA Lakers, even though his NY Knicks aren't doing any better so far this season. Nick Young's return from injury has given Kobe Bryant and company a much needed spark, and will Phil and Carmelo Anthony regret their taunts, and starting this feud?
