Browns coach Mike Pettine was intentionally glib Monday when asked at a press conference about whether Manziel, the 22nd overall pick in last year's NFL Draft, would replace struggling starter Brian Hoyer. But Tuesday, the Browns made the move, choosing 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Manziel to start under center from this point forward. Read More »
Cleveland Browns fans are ready for 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel to take over for Brian Hoyer, who has struggled mightily after a hot start, according to "USA Today." Browns head coach Mike Pettine named Hoyer the starter of the rookie Manziel at the start of the season. Manziel was already one of the most famous and popular football players in the country after an illustrious career at Texas A&M earned him the nickname "Johnny Football." But Hoyer performed well, leading the Browns to a 6-3 start before the wheels began to fall apart. Cleveland is now 1-3 in its last four games, and ESPN reports that Hoyer has led the Browns to just one touchdown drive in his last 29 series. With pressure mounting to make a change, Pettine stuck with Hoyer Sunday, Dec. 7, against the Indianapolis Colts. He went just 14 for 31 for 140 yards, throwing two interceptions. The game was only close because Cleveland's defense put up 14 points. Read More »
Drake and LeBron James will be angry, as despite their best efforts, they couldn't convince Mike Pettine to bench Brian Hoyer in favour of Johnny Manziel, who they're both good friends with. Pettine has angered many fans of the Cleveland Browns and a Hip Hop and NBA icon, all with one move, so Hoyer had better prove his worth in their upcoming NFL clash against the Indianapolis Colts. Will Pettine regret upsetting Drake and James, and could this prompt a Manziel trade? Read More »
If anybody thought Brian Hoyer was going to go quietly after his benching, they thought wrong. The Cleveland Browns' QB has come out all guns blazing, verbally attacking Johnny Manziel, LeBron James and the NFL, and of course his team. Hoyer believes he should still be the starter, despite his recent slip of form, and he's not happy that he's been benched. James, the star player for the Cleveland Cavaliers, has also insisted that Manziel is "ready" to start. Just when it seems like the world wants Johnny, Brian's done himself no favours at all. What move will the Browns make? Read More »
It all started with a quarterback fake, a drive into the endzone, and then the famous 'money' gesture. When Cleveland Browns backup quarterback Johnny Manziel - Johnny Football, as we're so often reminded - scored a touchdown on his first NFL drive after replacing starter Brian Hoyer, it made Browns coach Mike Pettine's choice all the easier as to who would start this week against Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. It helps that Manziel is claiming his veteran Cleveland teammates "rallied around" him during their 26-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Read More »
The Cleveland Browns are enjoying one of their best NFL seasons since their 1999 return, but that doesn't mean everything is perfect, particularly in the mind of their management. Jordan Cameron, Johnny Manziel and Josh Gordon were tipped to be the stars that led the Browns to astonishing things this season, but strangely, they've done just that, astonish the NFL, but without the help of this trio. The Browns will face the Buffalo Bills this weekend, and whether they win or lose, they could well trade these three stars, but for very different reasons. Should they save money and stockpile picks, particularly if they continue to win games without much impact from these stars? Read More »
Calvin Johnson has battled injuries throughout this season, and his career for that matter, but he's back, fit, and raring to go. He helped his Detroit Lions to beat the Chicago Bears in their stunning Thanksgiving game. Rumours suggested the Lions would trade their star WR soon, but he seems set to stay after a recent return to form. After his game-changing performance, he insisted he'd be eating some turkey with his family, and then it's back to football, where he and his teammates Matthew Stafford and Ndamukong Suhare hoping to dominate the NFL and then go on to win the Super Bowl. The Cleveland Browns and their QB situation has had more drama than a blockbuster, action movie. Brian Hoyer is their starter, and he wins games, yet he makes silly mistakes, and is deemed as unexciting, whereas Johnny Manziel is seen as holding the key to their NFL future, and an exciting, modern man to lead them forward. Many fans are split between the two, and just when it seemed Manziel would get his chance, it's all changed. After punching a fan in a hotel, it looks like the Browns might trade him, and then they will pay Hoyer a handsome salary to make him their man man for the long-term future. Read More »
Josh Gordon is back and he and Brian Hoyer are hoping to lead the Cleveland Browns to NFL glory, but could they both be part of an upcoming trade? The Browns are no strangers to making "big" decisions, as proven with deals to send star RB Trent Richardson packing last year, and his replacement Ben Tate a week ago. The Browns have talents like Johnny Manziel, Travis Benjamin and Jordan Cameron, and they're not afraid to make a big call, even if it means upsetting their winning-team mentality that they've developed. This weekend, Darrelle Revis will do his best to stop Calvin Johnson, but even he has admitted that his fellow NFL star is a "man amongst boys." This is a shock to hear, with Revis being one of the most confident men in the league. Revis' New England Patriots welcome the Detroit Lions to their stadium, but that's as far as the pleasantries are likely to go, with both teams desperate for the win, but which man will out-do the other, and which team will come out on top? The Cleveland Browns are having quite a season, but rumors are suggesting that they might make several changes in the upcoming offseason. One triple change could be to trade Jordan Cameron, Ben Tate and Johnny Manziel. All three, for very different reasons, could soon be looking for new NFL teams, as the Browns look to rid themselves of any frustrations. What will the Browns get in return, and will they let so many big names go in such a short space of time? Read More »
The Cleveland Browns have battled the Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel saga for too long, and it seems that they're about ready to make up their minds for good. Hoyer can teat the free agent market in 2015 unless he signs a new contract. But it's believed there are concerns, as he wants big money Mike Pettine and Co. aren't prepared to pay, meaning Manziel will finally get the starting QB job. Rumours emerged yesterday, Nov. 16, that their opponents the Houston Texans and their OC Bill O'Brien, could try and tempt Hoyer to sign with them. The Browns are slowly making their minds up, but it's likely they will see how Josh Gordon performs with Hoyer upon his return next week. Read More »
Brian Hoyer spent years trying to dislodge Tom Brady from his starting QB role for the New England Patriots, but he, similarly to Ryan Mallett, both failed to move him from his position. Hoyer is now happy with the Cleveland Browns, beating out Johnny Manziel, and he will now face Mallett, who is with the Houston Texans. Many are labelling this the "Brady Bowl", with fans wondering which back-up QB learned more under his guidance. Hoyer has insisted he respects Mallett, but also said he just wants to be a winner, and a winner with a new mega-contract in the NFL. Read More »
