'The Hobbit' Meets 'The Office' On 'SNL': Watch Highlights From Martin Freeman, Charli XCX [VIDEO]

A mashup of "The Hobbit" and "The Office" on "Saturday Night Live"? Count us in. "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" hits theaters this Wednesday, Dec. 17, and with the final installment of Peter Jackson's "Hobbit" trilogy — based on J.R.R Tolkien's book — set to blow audience's minds, star Martin Freeman hosted "Saturday Night Live" and delivered a performance for the ages. Joined by "Boom Clap" star and musical guest Charli XCX, Freeman's performance as Bilbo Baggins in "The Office: Middle Earth" has everybody talking. On "SNL" this week, Freeman — self-described as "sort of a funny George Clooney" — hosted with confidence and took part in a range of terrific skits, including ones where he dusted off his "Fargo" accent to sell water beds and tried to marry to "Top Five" star Leslie Jones. Peter Jackson managed to stretch three movies out of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel The Hobbit, with the final installation of the trilogy, The Battle of the Five Armies, premiering later this month. So will 2014 be the end of Jackson's Tolkien filmmaking that started with The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring so long ago? According to Sir Ian McKellan, who portrayed Gandalf in all six of these franchise films, you should never say never!
