The world seems to be comfortable with the idea that Jesse Eisenberg will be playing the new incarnation of DC supervillain Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, director Zack Snyder has just admitted that the American Ultra star was originally being considered for a completely different role in the film!

In an interview with The L.A. Times, Snyder confirmed that he had initially spoken to Eisenberg about playing another character before deciding to cast him as Luthor. But who was the Social Network star originally meant to portray in BvS?

"Let's call it a secret, but nevertheless it was the exact opposite of Lex Luthor," Snyder revealed.

So which character was Eisenberg supposed to play in Batman v Superman? Some fans believe that the Zombieland actor may have been considered for the role of Barry Allen/The Flash due to his comedic timing. However, it is also possible that he could have been up for a minor role like Dick Grayson or Jimmy Olsen.

Eisenberg also offered some insight on who Luthor is in the film and what he truly thinks of Superman.

"He is a narcissist of the first order but complicated in that way as well in that he is terribly troubled and competitive and vengeful," the actor said. "He looks at Superman not as somebody to destroy but as genuine threat to humanity."

Luthor's genius (and possible derangement) was in full display in the latest Batman v Superman trailer, which showed the villain interacting with Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne as well as Lois Lane (Amy Adams). The trailer also seemed to reveal that Luthor has procured the corpse of General Zod (Michael Shannon) and has subjected it to an experiment which resulted in the creation of Doomsday.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released on March 25.
