The St. Louis Cardinals introduced new signing Seung-hwan Oh on Monday, a 33-year-old reliever who has played professionally in Korea and Japan. It's a good move for many reasons, which undoubtedly include his skills on the mound. But the best part about the signing might just be the fact that MLB players now have a chance to beat "The Final Boss." You know, like in video games. Except this is real life. Oh's nickname is "The Final Boss."

The nickname is great, and even more fitting considering his role as a closer (the last guy that pitches). And now that we've all agreed the nickname is tremendous--especially considering his role as a closer and all--let's talk about some of the skills that earned him the name.

In his 11 years in Korea and Japan Oh closed 498 games, posting a 1.81 ERA. In 2013, after 9 seasons in Korea, Oh made the move to the Hanshin Tigers of Japan. His success continued. Most recently, in 2015, he posted a 2.73 ERA, 8.6 K/9, and 2.1 BB/9. In the baseball world that's basically mashed potatoes and gravy (really good stuff).

The right hander has an array of pitches that makes life difficult for hitters. In a 2 year old scouting report--who knows, by now Oh may have added a few more deadly weapons to the arsenal--he's accredited with a mid to low 90's fastball (his signature pitch), a mean slider, and the occasional curve. The deadly combination made him one of the most effective strikeout pitchers in Korea.

The deal is reported to be a 1-year deal worth about $5 million. And while Oh comes in as a closer, he will most likely take on the roll of set-up man with the midwest ball club. The Cardinals currently have closer Trevor Rosenthal on the roster, who set a franchise record with 48 saves last season.
