By the end of March, Jason Momoa (best known for his role as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones) will make his onscreen début as Aquaman on the highly anticipated Man of Steel sequel Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, later starring in a 2018 solo film. Now, it seems like Amber Heard, Johnny Depp's wife, could join him as DC Comics' undersea queen Mera!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Heard is currently negotiating with Warner Bros. to join the DC Cinematic Universe to play Aquaman's love interest Mera, who in the comics eventually becomes the Queen of Atlantis and rules beside him.

It seems like Heard, if hired, would make her début as a comic book character ahead of the Aquaman film: she'd be making her first appearance on Justice League Part One, a film set for a late 2017 release date.

For now, neither Warner nor Heard's people have confirmed whether she's courting the role.

Slash Film reports that Mera as a character made her comic book début in 1963, and her superpowers include controlling water to the point of forming objects out of "hard water."

Little is known so far about the Aquaman stand-alone film, and so far, it appears there are two scripts competing for approval at DC: one by David Leslie Johnson (who penned The Orphan and Wrath of the Titans 2) and another by Kurt Johnstad (300 and 300: Rise of an Empire).

Still, it'll be the first time the character goes live-action for a major film. The closest thing to it was an appearance on Smallville, where a young version of the iconic character was played by Alan Ritchson.

For years, Aquaman has been maligned over his supposedly "useless" powers, including a Cartoon Network ad from years back where he attempted to speak to canned tuna in a supermarket aisle.

However, Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder has made it clear that the new version is as badass as the rest of the Justice League superheroes.
