Gal Gadot's Diana Prince will be playing a major role in this year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but that doesn't mean that the DC superheroine will be taking things slow after her debut. The Wonder Woman solo movie is already filming, and star Chris Pine has just shared some details about Diana's love interest Steve Trevor as well as the 2017 film.

Pine recently spoke to Toronto Sun, where he offered some insight on the man who sweeps Wonder Woman off her feet.

"Steve Trevor is a rogue-ish, cynical realist who's seen the awful brutish nature of modern civilization," Pine said of his character. "He's a worldly guy, a charming guy and it's going to be a great, fun film."

But don't expect Wonder Woman to just be a movie about a powerful Amazonian princess kicking butt and finding time for a devastatingly good-looking boyfriend. According to Pine, "There are some incredibly deep, interesting and morally relevant themes" in the film.

It's too early to say, but one of these themes could be female empowerment during the First World War. The Star Trek actor also admitted that he is excited about shooting a film set during World War I.

"It's a period we don't see often; it's usually World War II," Pine said. In addition to that, Warner Bros. is obviously has a great plan to make the film look spot-on.

"Our costume design is incredible," the actor revealed. "We have scenes with, like, 500 extras all in period dress. I'd never been on a film with extras casting as beautifully done as it is here."

But why does Wonder Woman need 500 extras? Pine said, "It highlights a really important point. When background casting is done well, it can make or break a scene. I've got people in deep background that have entire lives. It's awesome, it's actual make-believe land."

Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins and also stars Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis and Said Taghmaoui, who recently shared the first set photo with Pine on his Instagram account. The film is scheduled for release on June 23, 2017.
