With discrimination at the tip of everyone's tongues with the Oscars boycott Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee are calling for, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert celebrated this past Martin Luther King Day by bringing up one of the most important issues out there right now, interviewing Black Lives Matter leader DeRay McKesson over the national holiday.

To celebrate Dr. King, Colbert asked McKesson in to discuss his latest project, Campaign Zero, an attempt to end police violence, and of course, he also spoke at length about the movement he originally proposed, Black Lives Matter, which has gained prominence in the past year.

According to Esquire, perhaps the most interesting moment in the entire interview was when Colbert asked McKesson what people found so intimidating about Black Lives Matter, as the subject has made some uncomfortable.

"I think people are uncomfortable talking about the racist history of this country and what we need to do to undo the impact of racism," said McKesson. "People like to act like we don't have a legacy of racism here. I think people get really uncomfortable with it. We know that we can't change it unless we address that."

Salon reported on another big moment from the interview when Colbert asked what McKesson thought about the response to the movement, All Lives Matter. As the conversation turned more and more serious, the civil rights leader told the host that the notion behind the idea was wrong, saying that if all lives truly mattered, there would be no movement necessary.

Even within the seriousness, the talk show host managed to squeeze a little comedy from the situation. Asking McKesson about white privilege and how he could detect it in his own life, he came to the conclusion that one of the ways his privilege was showing was that he was behind the hosting chair, so the two men switched seats!
