On Saturday, Bryce Harper accepted the award for National League MVP. And like any awards ceremony, a speech was involved. The 23-year-old outfielder for the Washington Nationals took to the podium, where he delivered a message with plenty of grace, and plenty of thanks--calling special attention to his parents.

"I want to thank my pops," Harper said. "He sacrificed everything to help me fulfill my dream. Countless hours of BP (batting practice), ground balls... The thing I loved most, though, on hot summer days, we'd always get slurpees and funyuns after. No matter what. That or strawberry shakes. He always made it fun. If he could get up at three a.m. in the blazing heat or freezing cold, to provide for my family, then I would do anything in this world to thank him every single day. I appreciate you pops."

Harper didn't stop there. Nor should he have. As we all know to be true, behind every strong man is an even stronger woman. Superstar baseball players are no different. Harper thanked his mom for being the backbone to the family, and for shaping him into the person he is today.

"Momma, you showed me how to have heart, how to care, how to be the best person I could off the field," Harper continued. "She keeps this family going, and strong, and always reiterates, 'Remember who you are every time you walk out the door.' She sacrificed so much, and I can't thank her enough."

Watch Harper deliver the emotional speech here.

Harper is coming off the heels of his best season, his fourth in the big league's. Not only did he hit for power, blasting 42 homers in 153 games, but he also hit for average, finishing the season with a .330 average. He also led the majors in OBP, SLG, OPS, and OPS+--which is really just fancy baseball statistics for 'Harper had a really good year.'

And, at 23, Harper may just be getting started. Look out, world.
